Five Astra Insurance Initiatives for the Sumba Community
Asuransi Astra is committed to participating in supporting the training of future generations to be able to compete in obtaining employment opportunities for future sustainability. This commitment is materialized through the "Earth Care Relay" (EPB) program, by inaugurating the English Goes to Village (EGK) learning center in West Sumba. As a culmination of this year's series of EPB programs, Asuransi Astra continues its actions in Sumba with five initiatives based on the pillars of education, health, environment and entrepreneurship. Among them, the stunting reduction program, the delivery of financial assistance and literacy to MSME (micro, small and medium-sized enterprises) actors, vocational education, the granting of scholarships and the planting of 3,000 mangrove trees. Partnering with the English Goes to Kampung Foundation, in this Learning Center, Asuransi Astra focuses on providing English education to support HR (Human Resources) worthy of work, as a form of global economic development from the Sumba tourism sector which is considered to have high potential for tourists. In accordance with data from the Central Statistics Agency, in 2021 there were 30,994 tourists from West Sumba, East and Southwest, of which 1,205 foreign tourists contributed.
Asuransi Astra also launched a health pillar together with Volunteer Doctors FK UNPAD, making visits to Kindergarten Hati Nurani, Watu Kawula Village, Southwest Sumba. Adhering to the principle of sustainability, Hati Nurani Kindergarten is one of the partners that has been fostered by Astra Insurance in Pijar Ilmu social activities in 2019 until now. This visit provided a health education program in the context of stunting reduction in schools by integrating healthy behavior change communications into the program and to the community by providing knowledge and skills to promote the optimal growth and development of the child.
In addition to education, stunting interventions were also carried out for a number of children in Karekamangeda Posyandu, Watu Kawula Village, and Mentari Pagi Posyandu, Weelonda Village by providing protein supplementation, zinc supplementation , an intervention logbook which will be accompanied for 3 to 6 months. According to the results of e-PPGBM Kab, Southwest Sumba for the period of February 2022, the number of stunted children under five reached 44.28% and was the highest of the NTT supply. This figure is well above the national average of 24.4%. Therefore, through this educational and intervention program, it is expected that it will reduce the exhibition that takes place in Sumba, especially Southwest Sumba.
Also, to increase Indonesia's financial literacy and support the
development of the country's natural economy, Astra Insurance provides
financial and risk management training to Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises
(MSMEs) Weaving Ikat Karaja in Letehakapuna Village, West Sumba and number of
Scholarship Recipients Representatives from SMKN 1 & SMKN 2 and SKPP
(School of Boys and Girls Skills) students. This literacy was conveyed directly
by the President Director of Asuransi Astra, Rudy Chen.
Not only providing literacy and education, Asuransi Astra also provided assistance in the form of a number of looms and packages of cotton yarn to support business productivity at the UMKM Ikat Karaja Weaving. The delivery of assistance was also followed by the provision of Garda Me Micro insurance from Astra Insurance to 70 members of the Karaja Ikat Weaving UMKM. All of this assistance is a form of support for dozens of housewives in Lamboya in supporting economic independence after the pandemic era by increasing business development. In the pillar of education to provide quality education that is well distributed, Asuransi Astra has also made several grants for the educational development of generations in 24 houses in the traditional village of Moto Dawu, West Sumba.
Also in line with the company's efforts to protect and care for the environment and its parts, the last mission of the Earth Care Relay in Sumba was announced by planting 3,000 mangrove trees on the shores of Kerewei Mananga, west of Sumba. Mangrove trees are a solution to absorb carbon dioxide due to greenhouse gas emissions and as a good source of oxygen as well as efforts to mitigate natural disasters around the coast due to sea water currents.
"Through actions in conserving the Earth that are carried out now are the same as giving hope to realize the goals and dreams of future generations. We have decided to hold a series of Earth Care Relays in 7 cities to end 2022 and hope that we can continue to spread kindness and smiles in other cities next year, "Rudy Chen, CEO Asuransi Astra said.
